Mortal Kombat Movie Gets Earlier Release Date

Warner Bros. announced this week that Mortal Kombat will be released a little bit earlier than initially mentioned.

Eager fans of the long-running arcade-fighter series can mark their calendars for January 15, 2020.
Previously, the release had been put in the books for March 5 - almost two months off the wait time ain't too bad.

Currently being filmed in Adelaide, South Australia, the Mortal Kombat movie is being directed by Simon McQuoid, and produced by James Wan (Aquaman). What's interesting is McQuoid's lack of major titles on his resume, which raises some eyebrows around here as to who this man is and what he is capable of putting on screen when rebooting a nostalgic favorite.

There are a few returning characters featured in the original 1995 release of the Mortal Kombat movie including Sub-Zero, Raiden, Liu Kang, Jax, and more.

Unfortunately, fans were left disappointed after the sequel to the original, Annihilation, hit the screen in 1997. It failed to induce the same feeling of "hell yeah!" it's predecessor had achieved.

Now, slated for a release date 24 years after the last mainstream installment, the Mortal Kombat movie better be ready to bring it.
